History

The Dish Network satellite systems and company are owned by EchoStar. EchoStar was first formed in 1980 by their chairman and CEO, Charlie Ergen. The company was formed for the purpose of being a distributor of C-band television systems. In 1987, EchoStar applied for a DBS (Direct Broadcast Systems) license with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). Around this time they were given access to geostationary orbital slot 119° west longitude. This was in 1992. On December 28, 1995, they were thrilled with the successful launch of their first satellite and decided to name it EchoStar I. It was in this same year that EchoStar decided to establish the Dish Network brand name so that they could market there satellite dish systems to the general public in the United States.

Current Events

Today, the Dish Network systems use a 20-inch satellite dish which they have named "The Dish 500". The Dish 500 allows viewers to be able to receive their satellite tv signals from two different satellite locations in unison. Dish Network didn't stop there though. The newest innovation is the "SuperDish".

Another innovation to come from the Dish Network systems was when they began providing in-flight satellite tv service to the United States airline named Song. This occured in the year 2003. In 2004, the Dish Network started another innovative idea by including certain selected music channels from the audio pack of the Sirius Satellite Radio Network.

What Dish Network Offers

Basically, the Dish Network systems offer a normal channel line up as well as a premium movie channel lineup that rivals or is even superior to what is offered by Directtv. Their channel line-ups can easily beat what is available on cable television. As is the case with all satellite dish systems, they can offer an all digital crystal clear picture with superb sound. One of the best things about the Dish Network is that they are currently the lowest priced all digital satellite television systems provider in the United States. They also offer full HDTV and DVR packages for the people who are serious about their home entertainment. Some of these features are being offered for free by authorized retailers nationwide.
